Marjo Nenonen

Dr. Marjo Nenonen is the Vice President and a board member at Karelia University of Applied Sciences. She has previously served as Head of Educational Development, Head of Academic Affairs, Head of Language Services and Senior Lecturer. 
As Vice President, Dr. Nenonen is in charge of education at Karelia UAS. She oversees Bachelor and Master education, open education, learning environments and student welfare. 

Dr. Nenonen is actively involved in regional development. She represents Karelia UAS in education committees in the North Karelia Chamber of Commerce and North Karelia Regional Council. She is also Karelia representative in Joensuu City Employment Ecosystem. 
Dr. Marjo Nenonen has served in various positions of responsibility in national and international development projects. The projects have focused on pedagogy and educational development ranging from curriculum development, digital learning and learning environments to student welfare and counselling.

Marjo Nenonen holds a PhD in Education from the University of Eastern Finland. Her research interests include performance-based funding in higher education, educational effectiveness, and quality. She has an extensive portfolio of publications both in Finnish and English.

As a result of long-lasting co-operation in international and national networks, Dr. Nenonen holds several positions of responsibility. She is a member of the national board of Vice Presidents and several national steering groups. She has served as a member of the steering committee for national Digivisio 2030 –programme, whose aim is to create a platform and concept for the future for learning that benefits higher education institutions, learners and the society as a whole.

Dr. Nenonen has received both international and national recognitions for her achievements in educational development.
