POLICY BRIEF ON RESPONSIBLE GENAI-SUPPORTED PHD SUPERVISION
A new policy brief from the University of Thessaly (UTH) presents evidence and recommendations on the responsible integration of Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) into PhD supervision. The brief is grounded in a real doctoral supervision case funded within the INVEST European University Alliance and builds on a peer-reviewed study published earlier this year in the International Journal of Doctoral Studies (Scopus-indexed).
The policy brief summarizes the study’s key findings, highlighting that the quality of AI-based doctoral guidance depends strongly on structured, context-rich prompting. It also introduces the Tripartite Mentoring Model, which frames AI as a bounded support partner alongside the doctoral student and supervisor, governed by clear principles on ethics, transparency, AI literacy, and academic integrity.
This brief is shared with INVEST partners for information and potential consultation. It represents a UTH-led contribution developed in the INVEST context and does not constitute an official alliance position.
