PhD position for Machine Learning - Digital Systems Department UTH

The Digital Systems Department (DSD) based at University of Thessaly (UTH) School of Science, is seeking applications for a fully funded PhD program from exceptional Greek/EU/International students with an outstanding academic record, as well as a proven record in research training. More specifically, we are looking for candidates with a background in one or ideally more of these areas: Machine Learning, Data Mining, Decision Support Systems, Computational Science, Statistics, Statistical Environmental and Chemistry Studies, Statistical Modelling, Applied Mathematics.

The project deals with the use of data mining methods, especially machine learning, to extract useful information from various databases (of environmental sciences, chemical engineering, energy-water-food-environment nexus etc.) and to formulate simulations of processes that lie on the aforementioned thematic areas to invent decision making methodologies based on the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Additional objectives may include: (a) the investigation of the application of tailored optimization methods for a repertoire of models of environmental sciences, (b) studying the impact and optimal design of dynamically adaptive control systems of the same nature, and (c) implement and demonstrate these methods on a unique large scale case study (e.g., a case study that is already operational).
