Professor Nikolaos Samaras, Local Coordinator of INVEST at the University of Thessaly, participated in the EU-CONEXUS Conference 2026, held in Athens from 10 to 12 June 2026.

The conference, titled “Challenges, Innovative Solutions and Collaborative Actions for Sustainable Urban Coastal Development”, brought together researchers, academic staff, students and representatives from European University Alliances to discuss sustainable development, research collaboration and stakeholder engagement.

Professor Samaras contributed to the session “Research Area Structures in European University Alliances and Stakeholder Collaboration on Coastal Projects – Collaboration Opportunities”. His participation provided an opportunity to present the experience of the INVEST Alliance and the University of Thessaly in building research, innovation and regional collaboration structures within the framework of a European University Alliance.

The event addressed a wide range of themes, including sustainable food production, coastal and water management, climate adaptation, nature-based solutions, research infrastructures, student opportunities and collaborative actions among European universities.

Through this participation, INVEST strengthened its presence in the wider European University Alliance community and contributed to the exchange of practices on how alliances can support research collaboration, stakeholder engagement and sustainable regional transformation.
